~About this Song~ After singing and playing "Oh My Darling Clementine" on the ukulele one day, we realized how sort of morbid and dreary the lyrics were. Like most songs of that time, they deal with dark themes under really happy melodies. So, we were inspired to elaborate on the story of Clementine, and really create and tell the story of the infamous girl behind the song, and so we came up with "Clementine."
~About the Gear~We recorded on a Rode NT1-A mic, Used the Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface, and recorded in Reaper.
lyrics
(verse 1)
I heard a song
about a coal miner’s daughter
she wandered aimlessly
running from her father.
She didn’t want to go,
but he was such an angry man.
It broke my heart
when she fell in.
(Chorus one)
Oh my darlin’, Oh my darlin’, Clementine
You’re not lost, you’re gone forever, Clementine
(verse two)
Light as a bird
but tough as a stone.
A small-town girl
running from home
She needed to go and wash away all her sins.
But that poor girl
She couldn’t swim
(Chorus two)
Oh my darlin’, oh my darlin’, Clementine
You’re not lost, you’re gone forever, Clementine
Oh my darlin’, oh my darlin’, Clementine
Oh my darlin’, I’m so sorry you had to die.
(Verse Three/ Bridge)
I heard a song about a coal miner’s daughter.
She was running from home when she fell in the water,
and they all watched as she was gasping for air.
Ruby lips turned blue,
But they didn’t care
(Chorus Three)
Oh my darlin’, oh my darlin’, Clementine
You’re not lost, you’re gone forever, Clementine
Oh my darlin’, oh my darlin’, Clementine
Oh my darlin, I’m so sorry you had to die.
You didn’t have to die. You didn’t have to die. Clementine.
